Statement From RSF

The Vice President of Republican Sinn Fein ( RSF ) Des Long has released a statement about the documentary on TV3 titled " Ireland's Crime Capitals ). Read the statement below.

The television programme shown on TV3 that traced the
ongoing feud in Limerick made gripping television and
tracked the development of the crime gangs but failed to
offer any solution, the locally based vice-president of
Republican Sinn Fein said today.

Des Long from Corbally who is contesting the leadership
of RSF at the upcoming Ard Fheis said that in all the
comment on crime in Limerick not one progressive
idea has been put forward to break the cycle of death
and destruction.

Gripping television is all very well but once the
cameras have packed up and the programme has
being televised the reality is that ordinary people
in the city housing estates have to suffer ongoing
crime and conflict.

The sheer strain and pressure as depicted on the
programme in having to live in an estate afflicted
by inherent violence should urge those in charge
of the Regeneration Board to live up to their
social responsibilities.

The Boards were set up by the 26 County Administration
with such high hopes and painted as the solution to the
crime problem in Limerick. However the performance
has been notably short on any real progress in ending
the awful cycle of gang activity.

The burden being placed on ordinary citizens in these
estates is fast becoming intolerable and the Boards
must now produce concrete results not more polished plans
on glossy paper.
