The Limerick Christmas lights will be turned on this Saturday 21-11-2009 at 6.00 PM. The lights will be turned on this year by the mayor Kevin Kiely and professional boxer Andy Lee. The presence of Andy Lee is expected to draw huge crowds to the city centre at the weekend. Mayor Kevin Kiely explained that the Christmas lights are very Eco friendly, and the Christmas tree is going to be taller than last year, making it the tallest Christmas tree in Ireland.
The tree is made of recycled metal from recent building projects in Limerick, including Thomond Park and the Shannon Tunnel. Throughout the weekend there is a number of markets being held throughout Limerick, there will be as much as 50% discounts from certain shops. The event will be broadcast live by Live 95 FM radio and there is lots of prizes to be won. Limerick city council are offering free on street parking during the weekend.
