Des Long (RSF) Calls On Mayor Kevin Kiely (FG) To Resign

MAYOR MUST RESIGN OVER INSULT TO UNEMPLOYED

The Mayor of Limerick Kevin Kiely should consider his
position in the light of his ugly remarks on the unemployed
people of the city.

The Mayor has insulted all unemployed people by inferring that
they are not entitled to raise matters of civic importance and
further added to the insult by suggesting that they should sweep
the streets and non nationals should be deported.

The Mayor of Limerick has shown a disregard for the
rights of the unemployed by his hostile reaction to the
raising of a civic issue.

The fact is the issue of the incorrect timing of the famous
Limerick landmark Tait’s Clock was raised by a man who
is retired after a life time of service to the trade union
movement in Limerick.

Surely the status of a person asking a question of the City
Council is not relevant – what is important is the issue
that reflects on civic pride.

It would be interesting to know if the Mayor refuses the
votes of the unemployed when he knocks on doors in
Limerick.

With his intemperate and insulting remarks against the
unemployed of the city, it is now time for the Mayor to
consider his position.

After all he is supposed to be Mayor for all the citizens,
not just those in jobs, or whose with wealth, power and
political influence.
