TIME FOR SERIOUS QUESTIONS FOR REGENERATION
The revelation that up to a half dozen jobs were given to
young people with links to officials of the Limerick
Regeneration Board with formal interviews is a national
scandal that is now being swept under the carpet, a local
community activist said today.
Sean O’Neill from Prospect said that the Chief Executive
of the Board Brendan Kenny cannot lightly dismiss the
story because it has all the hallmarks of jobs for the boys
syndrome.
For jobs to be filled without following formal laid down
procedure is one thing but for those who get the jobs
to have links to officials in the Board is a scandal.
The people of the area under re-development from
Prospect to Ballinacurra Weston and Hyde Road at
first welcomed the establishment and setting up of
the Regeneration Board as it seemed to offer some
hope for the future.
However in the years that the Board has fully
operational not much has been done on the ground
to improve the lives of the ordinary people in the
crime affected areas.
Instead of bring a new and improved quality of life
to the blighted areas, the Board to date has only
brought disappointment and disillusionment.
This latest example of jobs for the boys and girls
will further damage the already tarnished image
of the Regeneration Board. It is now time for serious
questions and honest answers.
